Hello Virtuoso,
I'm Sevilla

I’m the fourth largest city in Spain (688,592 inhabitants) and the third most visited urban tourism destination. More than 3 million visitors stayed in my hotels and tourist accommodation (6.5 million overnight stays) in 2022, which makes me one of the fastest growing Spanish cities in terms of both overnight and average stays.

I have an extraordinarily strong identity built up over time, a recognised cultural heritage of excellent quality and an attractive lifestyle open to visitors. My historic center is one of the largest in Europe, carefully protected and recognised by three UNESCO World Heritage Declarations: Cathedral and Alcazar, the Royal Palace, two exceptional testimonies of the civilisation of Almohad and Christian Andalusia, with the minaret of the Giralda as a masterpiece of Almohad architecture, and the Archive of the Indies, a legacy of the city’s strong links with America.

Ethnographic resources such as the Easter Week celebrations and the April Fair (6.3M citizens/visitors and 1260M€ of economic impact), both recognised as festivals of International Tourist Interest, as well as Flamenco, are in great demand worldwide. Neighborhoods such as Santa Cruz (the old Jewish quarter) and Triana are two attractive examples of the real life of my inhabitants.

«Authenticity means you are true to your own personality, values, and spirit.  You are honest with yourself and with the others, and you take responsibility for your mistakes and your actions».
Preserving the identity of a tourist destination is sustainable and intelligent because it promotes cultural preservation, protects the environment, generates economic benefits for the local community, and encourages community participation. These elements are fundamental to ensuring long-term sustainability in tourism and to offering authentic and meaningful experiences to visitors.

VISITOR ECONOMY

OUR STRATEGY

Tourism accounts for 18% of GDP directly, although the indirect dependence is much higher, as 25% of Seville’s population lives from tourism.

This importance is strongly reflected in the city’s urban strategy, in which the challenges of the city are deeply related to the model of sustainable urban tourism. A shared and common city, wich shares its identity, expressing itself through celebrations and lifestyle habits in public spaces. Seville is a city shared between visitors and residents, and Sevilla City Office seeks to improve the quality of life for its residents and enhance the experiences of its visitors through more responsible and sustainable tourism.

Sevilla City Office is what is known as a Destination Marketing and Management Organization (DMMO). We are at the forefront of management. This organization is not only dedicated to marketing and promoting the destination but also to the management and governance of tourism in the city.

Sevilla has been chosen as the European Capital of Smart Tourism 2023. The city has been selected by the European Commission as a success story and an example of good practices in tourism. The claim for the Smart Tourism Capital during this 2023 is «Sharing is Smart,» which inspires the spirit of the future strategy: sharing experiences, spaces, and ideas is the best way to create a new smarter model of tourism.
