PROJECT #1

Smart TOURISM OFFICE

The Smart Tourism Office is a space where Seville’s vision for the transformation of the city into a smarter tourist destination is researched and created. It aims at supporting the sector with the development of innovative projects, such as the implementation of the Tourist Intelligence System or the Global Indicator of Tourist Activity, the latter a pioneer in this field, which allows the constant management of tourism based on the data provided.

The objective is to gradually obtain feedback from the tourism model and to adapt to the permanent needs of managers, whether public or private, pursuing a balanced coexistence between citizens and tourists.

Ultimately, this project will allow intervention in the destination’s decision making, increasing competitiveness and improving the use of existing resources, helping to identify opportunities to create further ones. It represents a change in the city’s tourism management model and a fundamental strategy for the sustainable growth of the local economy.

TOurism Intelligence System

The Tourism Intelligence System relies on data from different sources to provide information that improves strategic planning processes. By defining key parameters and indicators, a large amount of data is collected and analyzed from which patterns and relevant information can be extracted. This information is open and accessible so that interested individuals and companies can reuse it as a basis for the definition and design of new services or perform predictive and diagnostic analyses of those already in place. In this way, the SIT becomes a valuable information bank for the analysis of the sector and the behavior of the profile of the tourists who visit us

The information displayed in the SIT helps to make decisions and deploy measures that lead to a more sustainable and responsible tourism model.

Management of tourist flows

The tourist density and flow management project is a pilot project that focuses on diversifying tourist flows from the area with the highest tourist concentration (Santa Cruz neighborhood). With a significant emphasis on digitalization and in collaboration with the University and tech companies, the project aims to improve the quality of life for residents and enhance the visitor experience by redirecting tourists to the unknown authentic parts of Seville.

In this video, you can see how we analyze the real-time footfall in a specific area of Santa Cruz, using optical sensors that utilize artificial intelligence.

Global Tourism Activity Index

We generate a new reality through study. Following the initiative of the Sevillian Association of Tourism Companies, we created a new activity index that includes sustainability and tourist experiences. In order to evaluate the sector´s impact in the city, we consider the overall evolution of tourism, going beyond traditional mensurations such as the number of travelers, overnight stays or other typical indicators.

One of the aims of this innovative index produced between the Smart Office and the Pablo de Olavide University of Seville, is to build an exclusive dimension wich includes the sustainability component as a backbone. How much is the city investing in order to preserve culture? How many programs are being developed in terms of environmental sustainability? These are, for example, questions to be taken into account when determining the value of the index.

sustainability index

Understanding reality through indicators is crucial for destinations. Sevilla has developed a pilot project in which ad hoc sustainability indexes have been created for a tourist destination (environmental, social, and economic). This project has been carried out in collaboration with Mabrian and Mastercard.

By interrelating twenty-six different KPIs, tourism sustainability indexes are obtained that are applicable and comparable to any destination in the world.

Global Tourism Sustainability Index

This indicator is the result of the joint evaluation of the seven Tourism Sustainability Indexes mentioned above, weighted according to their importance, in addition to the destination’s general indicators.

0

SEASONALITY INDEX

One of the indicators that makes up the Global Tourism Sustainability Index is the seasonality index, which allows for the assessment of tourism activity seasonality at the destination, through the cross-analysis of various available data sources (air traffic, hotel demand, and destination spending). A value of 100 would indicate a homogeneous distribution of tourism activity over the period.

0

TOURISM INCOME DISTRIBUTION INDEX

Another indicator is income distribution. It is obtained through the cross-analysis of visitor expenditure and its distribution, both temporally and by different categories of establishments. The average duration of the stay in the destination is also taken into account. A value of 100 indicates a destination with high expenditure per visitor and a diversified distribution of tourism spending.

Smart Identity PROJECT

The local tourist trade is often rooted in Seville’s identity and culture. These businesses often offer authentic products and services that reflect the tradition and charm of the city. By protecting and supporting sustainable local commerce, the preservation of cultural identity is ensured and the homogenisation of the tourist offer is avoided.

The Smart Identity Project consist of the development and implementation of the following actions.

Emblematic establishments

The Emblematic Establishments of the city of Seville are businesses, shops, or premises that have become representative symbols of sustainability in the city. These places have a long historical, cultural, or architectural trajectory and are recognized by both residents and visitors.

For the first time, Seville City Council has approved a regulation to support and protect those establishments which, due to their uniqueness and historical trajectory, form part of the essence and local identity of our commercial and services sector, and which are configured as references and icons of the local economy.

The measure is part of the strategy of economic reactivation and support for all the tactical sectors of the city and is articulated through the granting and use of the distinctive «Emblematic Establishments of the City of Seville».

To be considered emblematic businesses, commercial establishments, hospitality venues, or hotels must have a minimum of 40 years of history and meet certain requirements. This includes engaging in a unique activity that is relevant to the traditional culture of Seville and having elements with historical or heritage value that are protected or notable, both inside and outside the establishment.

Identity store

Seville City Office has created a store that embodies the identity of Seville. Travelers often seek souvenirs or mementos that encapsulate their unique experiences in a destination. In Seville City Office, we have developed a new concept that integrates our city project with the distinctive features of our city.

In the store, we offer items made with sustainable materials, crafted by local artisans or created by local businesses, which connect travelers with the authentic Seville. These are unique pieces produced in limited series, benefiting the local commerce, historical sectors, and the residents.

Specifically, we have designed exclusive pieces that showcase the talent of local artists and artisans who reinterpret the traditions and follow artisanal production processes.

SEvilla & ME

Sevilla & Me is an action of the Smart Identy Project to attract audiovisual productions and major events to the city. On the one hand, Sevilla & Me attracts direct investment to the city from audiovisual production companies and event organizers, generating employment and economic activity. On the other hand, it helps highlight lesser-known areas of Seville by creating tourist routes, facilitating filming, and organizing prestigious events in these areas.

Sevilla & Me also functions as a comprehensive one-stop platform that facilitates the coordination of locations for filming and events. Additionally, it has a program to promote and showcase local talent and Sevillian companies in the audiovisual and events industries. In this way, it not only attracts investments and tourism to the city but also boosts the local business ecosystem.

In addition,It revitalizes both traditional and emerging sectors, creating synergies between heritage, gastronomy, commerce, tourism, and new industries. It is an intelligent promotional strategy that reinforces Seville’s brand worldwide and improves the quality of life for its residents.

FIBES - THINK TANK

The Seville Congress and Exhibition Center (Fibes) has played a fundamental role in the city’s growth since 1989 by promoting key strategic areas. Today, Fibes has become a Think Tank where debates, reflections, and innovative projects are generated to build a more sustainable and intelligent future.

Seville City Office organizes internationally renowned events that align with key strategic sectors of the city, such as the Tourism Innovation Summit, the Aerospace Fair or the International Flamenco Fashion Week. However, thanks to its new strategy, it has also become an international Think Tank where future challenges are anticipated, and innovative projects in the blue economy and green economy are promoted.

These initiatives position Seville as a benchmark in the promotion of sustainable and innovative projects that address current and future challenges. Furthermore, collaboration with various strategic sectors contributes to the economic and social development of the city, fostering job creation and sustainable growth.
